Misogynistic or misanthrope meaning; One who dislikes women, the female gender .
Gorean's adore their women… not dislike them, however Gorean women are not treated like they are in our world. Gor is a slave based society. A slave based society is defined here, as a society in which every member within such a society, can be put into slavery. Gender doesn’t mean a thing. Yes, though irregular for the larger part, men of Gor are not placed into slavery unless they are born into it. It being the hardest form of punishment for men of Gor and most men would choose death over enslavement. Some will argue that women would also choose such, but of Gor, that is not an option if those in charge (men generally) don’t want it.
Slaves, as you the reader, read the books, with all your intact moralities, ethics and likes, will see things done to slaves in the books to be barbaric, even horrifying, unjust, cruel, mean, showing inhumanity, and all kinds of terrible adjectives one can come up with. But always remember they are your moralities, your ethics, your dislikes that you judge Gor by and not what a Gorean would at all think, if the place existed. By some of the pages of Gor, Norman shows slavery to be very freeing for women, he shows that even some of those slaves seek punishment simply so they will garner the attention they desire. Horrific you say! To Gorean's no!
Does this mean that Gorean's on an everyday basis abused their women! On the contrary, they had more things to be doing other than beating on their slaves, putting them into slave boxes, pushing a slave goad against their skin or threatening to kill them. All means of PUNISHMENT for doing something wrong. But slaves are for the full use of all Gorean men, even those owned by another. It is not uncommon to see another mans slave being sexually used just because he wants to. The owner most of the time, could care less really, unless in his opinion, the slave wasn’t ready to be opened as a slave or she was in training (which is where and when one will most often read about things they may determines as the atrocities they see towards women in the books). It is of course, the wish and desire of a kajira to be owned by what she wants. But that doesn't mean she is or ever will be.
In any case, just because men of Gor want their women subservient and walking a fine line, it doesn’t mean they hate women. The books also talk about how Gorean men love the looks and feel of women, how they will undress each with their minds eye, how meticulous they are when evaluating a potential girl for their home. How much they demand that knowing everything about their slave is so important for many reasons. Norman shows what he thinks the weakness of men and women of today are in the series. In a nut shell, wanting a woman as subservient as you want, is not hating women. Don't let women dictate their wants to you. You dictate yours to them. They are of and in Gor for men to be men, or should be. Gorean man do not let females dictate, or direct their ways.
